Fathoming Out the George Ford Family Story………

 George and Alice Ford  and Family Part 1

I’ve said this before –Friends come and go but relatives seem to accumulate. In just a couple of years we have well and truly connected with many second cousins in the Ford family. Hello everyone. This is the story of George Ford who married Alice Barter. From there they had 9 kids in both England and Ireland. George Ford  and Alice Barter were my husband’s great Grandparents. Their son Sidney was his grandfather. 

The householder returns from the census 1841-1911 plus the 1939 Register give us a glimpse of what is happening in our family group at 10 year intervals. Together with Births, Death and Marriage records plus baptism records and funeral notices adding to the picture of the lives of the forebears. We use these to build the family tree- names dates etc. Many times these are a sentimental photos or keepsake-sometimes they are just in the “family” box of memorabilia rarely looked at, sometimes for want of a story they are disposed of. Often it comes down to one or two in a generation who hold this treasure of forgotten stuff and put the story together. 

Thankfully there are plenty of eager people in this family. When you search around the siblings of these ancestors and their offspring not only the family accumulates the circumstances and decisions made seems to expand the story exponentially. Then come the stories and memories. Sometimes the family myths unravel, names are sorted out and sometimes stories are uncovered- then we have real family history. 

Imagine my delight when independently a bunch of second cousins began to test their DNA.

So after sorting out the story of George Ford or George Wilkes in a past article How I Discovered We Are Not Fords it is anchors away with the story of Alice and George Ford and hopefully some fairly smooth sailing to tell the story of their eight children.
